EGA inaugurates UAE's largest aluminium recycling plant

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE's largest industrial company outside the oil and gas sector, inaugurated the country's biggest aluminium recycling plant on June 24. The milestone marks a significant step forward in EGA's expansion into low-carbon aluminium and the development of the UAE's circular economy.
Recycling aluminium scrap requires up to 95% less energy than producing primary aluminium from raw ore, resulting in substantial energy savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The Al Taweelah recycling plant has an annual production capacity of 185,000 tonnes. It processes post-consumer aluminium scrap, along with some pre-consumer scrap, into low-carbon, high-quality "premium aluminium" billets and T-bars. These products are marketed by EGA under the brand name RevivAL.
EGA also blends recycled metal with primary aluminium produced using solar power-marketed as CelestiAL-R-and with nuclear power, sold as MinimAL-R.
Historically, the majority of aluminium scrap generated in the UAE has been exported for processing overseas, resulting in a loss of value to the national economy. The Al Taweelah recycling plant now provides local processing capacity, making EGA the largest consumer of aluminium scrap in the UAE.
The Al Taweelah plant began producing recycled aluminium in February. Final commissioning work was paused following an Iranian attack on the Khalifa Economic Zone Abu Dhabi on March 28 and resumed in April. Recycled cast metal production restarted in early May. Ramp-up to full production is expected to take up to six months, consistent with the original timeline, and will depend on scrap availability.
With the Al Taweelah plant and a planned acquisition of a recycling facility in Italy, EGA's total aluminium recycling capacity now exceeds 400,000 tonnes per year across the UAE, Europe, and the United States. An additional 200,000 tonnes of capacity is currently under development in Europe and the US.
