Japan's cold-rolled strip shipments surge in March 2026

Japan shipped 407,826 metric tons of cold-rolled sheet and strip in March 2026, a 19.7% jump from February but a 2.7% decline compared with March 2025, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation. Domestic deliveries accounted for 51.9% of the total, while exports made up the remaining 48.1%.
Inventories of CR sheet and strip at the end of March stood at 647,044 metric tons, down 4.6% from the previous month but up 4.5% YoY. Steelmakers held 73.0% of those stocks and traders the remaining 27.0%. Production in March reached 376,896 metric tons, a MoM increase of 10.2% and a YoY decrease of 10.5%.
