Kazzinc announced on May 12 that its zinc and lead production facilities at the Ust-Kamenogorsk metallurgical complex in eastern Kazakhstan are now running at diminished capacity, a week after a deadly explosion ripped through the site.
The blast, which struck the company's zinc plant, claimed three lives and left five workers injured. As Kazakhstan's leading producer of zinc, lead, and precious metals--and a subsidiary of global commodities giant Glencore--Kazzinc has not revealed the specific extent of the production impact.
The company stated that on-site debris clearance and a formal investigation into the cause of the accident remain underway.
