Tianhe Magnetics to invest in rare earth magnet projects

Baotou Tianhe Magnetics Technology Co., Ltd. announced plans to invest a total of RMB900 million (USD126 million) through its wholly-owned subsidiaries to build high-performance rare earth magnet and component manufacturing, equipment production, and R&D facilities. Funds for the projects will come from the company's own capital and/or self-raised financing.
According to the announcement, its subsidiary Baotou Tianhe New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. will invest RMB850 million (USD119 million) to build a high-performance rare earth magnet and component manufacturing and R&D project in two phases. The first phase, with an investment of RMB210 million (USD29.43 million), is expected to start construction on March 20, 2026 and would take about 18 months to complete. The second phase will proceed based on market demand.
Another subsidiary, Baotou Tianzhihe Magnetic Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., will invest up to RMB50 million (USD7 million) to develop high-performance rare earth magnet production equipment and R&D facilities. Construction is expected to take about 24 months, starting October 15, 2025.
China's rare earth permanent magnet industry has seen rapid growth in recent years, making the country the world's largest producer and major exporter of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets. According to China Customs data, exports of rare earth permanent magnet materials increased from 27,000 tonnes in 2016 to 58,000 tonnes in 2024. The new projects are expected to expand Tianhe's production capacity for high-performance rare earth magnets and further strengthen its market position.
