Pet coke: As some major producers reduced production for maintenance, supply keeps tight and drives prices to go up further.
CPC: Owing to weak downstream demand, producers slightly lower prices, in spite of the increased pet coke prices.
Coal tar pitch: Driven by reduced supply and increased prices of coal tar, pitch producers raise prices.
Prebaked anode : Top biggest buyers and suppliers reach agreement on a price decrease.
Graphite electrode: Driven by increased low-S pet coke prices, graphite electrode producers raise their prices.
2 Economy and Policy
2.1 Global crude steel production declined in June
According to the latest statistics from worldsteel, global crude steel production decreased by 5.8% year-on-year to 151 . 4 million tons in June this year . In the first half of this year, global crude steel output was 934 . 3 million tons, a decline of 2 . 2% compared with the same period last year.
In that month, the crude steel output in the Asian region was 112.9 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6 . 2% . Among them, China's crude steel output was 83 . 2 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 9 . 2% . Japan's crude steel output was 6 . 7 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 4 . 4% . India's crude steel output reached 13 . 6 million tons, up 13 . 3% year-on-year . South Korea's crude steel output was 5 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 1 . 8%.
In June, the crude steel output of the 27 EU countries was 10.4 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8 . 2% . Among them, Germany's crude steel output was 2 . 7 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 15 . 9% . Crude steel output in North America was 8 . 7 million tons, up 1 . 2% year-on-year . Among them, the output of the United States was 6 . 9 million tons, increasing by 4 . 6% year-on-year.
