China's crude steel output shrinks 6.9% in first five months

In May 2025, China produced 74.11 million tonnes of pig iron, down by 3.3% YoY, 86.55 million tonnes of crude steel, down by 6.9% YoY, and 127.43 million tonnes of steel products, up by 3.4% YoY, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
From January to May, the country's production of pig iron edged down by 0.1% YoY to 362.74 million tonnes, crude steel production slid by 1.7% YoY to 431.63 million tonnes, while steel products production increased by 5.2% YoY to 605.82 million tonnes.
