China's Hubei province newly found 28 mineral deposits in 2024, including the largest niobium deposits discovered to date in the country, according to the Department of Natural Resources of Hunan Province.
The newly identified niobium deposits, located in Zhushan and Zhuxi respectively, together contain an estimated 2.54 million tonnes of niobium oxide, which represents a staggering 54% of China's total niobium reserves.
This discovery positions Hubei as the nation's largest strategic base for niobium resources, marking a transformative shift in the country's mineral landscape. The vast reserves are expected to significantly reduce China's longstanding reliance on niobium imports.
