China's Qingyang county has been pushing ahead with the construction of four major advanced magnesium materials bases that focus on production, application, innovation and talent cultivation, which was brought forward at 2024 Anhui's "two sessions".
To accelerate the construction of 100-billion-yuan magnesium based new materials industrial cluster, Qingyang has been promoting the development of magnesium based automotive lightweight laboratory, magnesium hydrogen storage and magnesium battery related technology, the introduction of pilot bases and the operation of industrial fund. At the same time, the county has been actively promoting the establishment of magnesium based lightweight alloy surface treatment center, academician workstation, magnesium products futures trading center.
Qingyang insists on establishing the magnesium-aluminum lightweight alloy industry as the first industry in the county, giving full play to the "leading" effect of the Anhui Baomei's 300,000tpa lightweight magnesium alloy project, and building a comprehensive magnesium-aluminum lightweight alloy industry chain and ecosystem.
Anhui Baomei's 300,000tpa lightweight magnesium alloy project was launched in Qingyang in 2021 and commenced production in 2024, when a number of associated upstream and downstream projects broke ground successively, including Wujia dolomite mine project, molten magnesium direct supply short process industrial park, Xinlida intelligence equipment project, Jiuhang auto wheel project, etc. So far, Qingyang has a total of 15 companies above designated size with gross annual output value exceeding RMB2 billion (USD276 million).
