LS-Nikko Copper decreases selenium powder output

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 29 Apr 24 - The only selenium powder 99.9%min producer in Korea, LS-Nikko Copper decreased selenium powder 99.9%min output since early this year and estimated to produce around 10t in April, a source from the company disclosed to Asian Metal.
The source said, "We reduced selenium powder 99.9%min output since early this year in view of equipment problems and have no idea when we could resume normal production". They hold no stock for selling at present and just watch the market till now.
The producer, established in 1936, based on a production capacity of 500tpy of selenium powder 99.9%min, produced around 240t totally in 2023 and expect to produce around 120t in 2024. They mainly produce copper with a production capacity of 580,000tpy.
The current mainstream prices of selenium powder 99.9%min hover at USD9.00-9.50/lb CIF China now, unchanged from last week. The spot market runs slowly and most downstream consumers mainly do long-term contracts. Insiders predict that the mainstream prices of selenium powder 99.9%min in South Korea would stay stable in the upcoming week.
