Qiya Aluminum resumes primary aluminum production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Apr 24 - Yunnan Qiya Aluminum Co., Ltd., one of major primary aluminum producers in South China, restarted 100,000t of primary aluminum production capacity on April 2 and expects to produce about 16,500t in April.
"As required by the government, we started to resume primary aluminum production on April 2 after Yunnan had surplus power. The production resumption involved 100,000t of primary aluminum production capacity and 74 electrolytic cells of 500kA. As of this week, our operating capacity has reached 230,000t, and it is expected that the resumption of production will be completed in early May, when the operating capacity will reach 280,000t. We expect to produce about 16,500t in April," a source from the company said, adding that they produced about 15,000t in March.
With an annual production capacity of 350,000t, the company produced about 218,000t in 2023 and about 44,500t in the first quarter of this year. They hold no aluminum ingot in stock now.
On Tuesday, mainstream prices for Chinese aluminum ingot 99.7%min in warehouse Foshan stood at RMB20,170-20,270/t (USD2,784-2,798/t) EXW D/P, down by RMB390/t (USD53.83/t) from the previous trading day. Insiders said that the demand of end consumers is recovering now, and the social inventory of primary aluminum begins to decline, so prices for Chinese aluminum ingot 99.7%min would increase in the coming week.
