Chinese gallium metal prices move up

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 11 Apr 24 - Most Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min producers lift the prices to test the market and the downstream purchases from hand to mouth over the past week. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min increase by RMB50/kg (USD6.92/kg) from early this week to RMB2,270-2,320/kg (USD314-321/kg) EXW D/P. Despite that most producers intend to mark up the prices further, most buyers hold watchful attitudes and stood on sidelines towards higher prices. Therefore, market participants forecasted that the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min would hover at the current level in the upcoming days.
A producer in North China discloses that they lifted their quotation for gallium metal 99.99%min to RMB2,400/kg (USD331/kg) EXW D/P today and could accept the price as low as RMB2,350/kg (USD325/kg) EXW D/P, while they considered selling at RMB2,300/kg (USD318/kg) late last week. They last sold around 300kg at RMB2,350/kg (USD325/kg) yesterday and about 500kg at RMB2,320/kg (USD320/kg) early last week. "We received 7-8 inquiries over the past few days and most clients intended to purchase at prices lower than RMB2,350/kg (USD325/kg) EXW D/P", said the producer. Given the soft demand from the end consumers, they forecast that the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min would show a stable trend in the upcoming days.
The producer, with a production capacity of 80tpy of gallium trioxide 99.99%min, plans to produce about 6t this month, similar to March. They hold no stock now, in line with late last month.
A consumer in South China notes that their regular suppliers refuse to accept any price lower than RMB2,320/kg (USD320/kg) EXW D/P for gallium metal 99.99%min presently, while they considered selling at the price as low as RMB2,280/kg (USD315/kg) early this week. They last purchased about 300kg at RMB2,280/kg (USD315/kg) early this week. "Most downstream clients still watch the market with soft demand, so we prefer to purchase from hand to mouth and forecast that the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min would remain stable in the following days", said the consumer.
The consumer, with a consumption capacity of 80tpy of gallium metal 99.99%min, estimated to consume around 3.5t this month, similar to last month. They hold around 1t of stock now, increased by 1t from the end of last month. They consumed around 50.4t in 2023 and about 10.5t so far in 2024.
