1. Market Highlights
The demand from downstream industries improved slowly during the month. Reporting insufficient orders for final products as well as the shrinking profits, end users remained inactive in production. Meanwhile, prices of raw materials went down continuously, weakening the cost support for finished steel and the confidence of market participants. The market ran slowly. Discouraged by the poor sales performance, steel mills cut production in the first half of the month, while they accelerated production of flat steel in the second half of the month with the profits recovering and the sales performance improving. Major steel mills such as Baowu Group, Ansteel, HBIS and Shougang Group maintained ex-works prices of flat steel for April production flat.
In the meantime, the international flat steel market ran slowly during the month, and prices went down in most countries. The downward price trend in China weakened the confidence of overseas market participants to some degree.
