Chinese calcined bauxite producers hold prices stable

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 3 Apr 24 - Despite the weak end market demand, in light of the firm bauxite prices, most producers hold prices firm this week. The current mainstream prices of Chinese calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.45%max B.D. 3.1min stay at RMB2,450-2,550/t (USD345-359/t) Ex-VAT EXW D/P, on par with late last week. Based on the firm production costs but dim end market, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would keep flat in the forthcoming week.
A producer in Yangquan states, "We hold prices at RMB2,550/t (USD354/t) EXW D/P for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.9%max K2O+Na2O 0.65%max B.D. 3.1min and could give a concession of RMB20/t (USD3/t) at most, unmoved from last week." They last sold about 150t late last week at around RMB2,550/t (USD354/t) and this is their only deal in the past week. Despite the weak market, given that the bauxite 73%min they bought from local supplier at RMB1,300/t (USD182/t) and stays in tight supply, they intend to hold the price stable and predict that the Chinese calcined bauxite mainstream prices would keep steady in the coming week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 30,000t, predict to produce around 2,000t in April, unchanged from last month. Currently they have about 1,000t in stock.
"We quote RMB2,500/t (USD352/t) EXW D/P for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 2.1%max K2O+Na2O 0.45%max B.D. 3.1min could give a counteroffer as much as RMB50/t (USD7/t), without much changes from late last week", another producer in Xiaoyi states. They last sold about 100t at around RMB2,450/t (USD345/t) about four days ago. Although the bauxite Al2O3 73%min that they bought stood at RMB1,200/t (USD168/t), considering the soft market demand, they prefer to keep price unchanged and anticipate that the mainstream prices for calcined bauxite would keep steady in the coming week.
With an annual production capacity of 60,000t, the producer expects to produce about 2,000t in April, unchanged MoM. They hold an inventory of nearly 800t at the moment.
