BEIJING (Asian Metal) 19 Mar 24 - Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min suppliers generally lowered the prices slightly to compete for orders due to soft demand from downstream consumers, while most buyers held watchful attitudes. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min move down to RMB120-123/kg (USD7.57-7.76/lb) delivered D/P, a decrease of RMB3/kg (USD0.19/lb) from one week ago. Insiders forecasted that the prevailing prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min would remain stable in the upcoming week supported by high raw material prices.
A South-China-based producer noted that they could accept the price as low as RMB121/kg (USD7.63/lb) delivered D/P for selenium dioxide 98%min at present, while they still insisted on RMB125/kg (USD7.89/lb) delivered D/P one week ago. They last sold around 2t at RMB121/kg (USD7.63/lb) delivered D/P late last week after they marking down the prices. The producer said, "Most consumers refused to accept prices higher than RMB120/kg (USD7.57/lb). However, we had no intention to lower prices further due to high crude selenium prices, which stood at RMB160/kg (USD10.09/lb) today". They believed that the mainstream prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min would hover at the current level in the following week.
The producer, with a production capacity of 360tpy of selenium dioxide 98%min, holds no stocks now, the same as the end of last month. They expected to produce about 25t this month, unchanged from last month.
A consumer in Southern China disclosed that they could purchase selenium dioxide 98%min at the price as low as RMB120/kg (USD7.57/lb) delivered D/P at present, while most suppliers refused to sell at prices lower than RMB125/kg (USD7.89/lb) delivered D/P early last week. As they still had inventory for this month, they did not purchase after the Spring Festival. They last purchased around 3t at RMB118/kg (USD7.44/lb) before the Spring Festival. The consumer said, "We forecasted that the mainstream prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min would remain stable in the upcoming days due to watchful attitudes from the downstream and firm prices from producers".
The consumer, with an annul consumption volume of 70t of selenium dioxide 98%min, planned to use about 3t this month, up by 1t MoM. They have around 5t of inventory at present.
