Southern Graphite resumed amorphous graphite production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Mar 24 - As the biggest amorphous graphite producer in the word, Southern Graphite Co., halted production in early February for the Chinese Spring Festival vacation, and resumed production in early March.
"We resumed production early this month after a suspension of one month for the Chinese Spring Festival vacation," a source from the company revealed, adding that they now keep one mine and one production line open, expecting an output of about 3,000t this month.
Based on an annual production capacity of 600,000t, they recorded an output of about 33,000t in 2023 and expect a similar output this year. They predict to produce about 3,000t in March, unchanged from January, holding no inventory presently.
Owing to the weak demand from steel mills, most producers recorded shrank sales, but refuse to lower their prices based on firm production cost. The current mainstream prices of Chinese amorphous graphite 80%min 20-50mm stand at RMB2,360-2,410/t (USD332-339/t) Ex-Vat D/A 180 days, in line with a week ago. Insiders predict that the mainstream prices would keep steady in the coming week.
