6Mtpa nickel and copper tailings recycling project breaks ground in Jinchang

On February 26, Gansu Jinpu Lite Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. broke ground on a nickel and copper tailings recycling project with a processing capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum at Jinchang Economic and Technological Development Zone in Gansu, China.
Founded in 2023, the company specializes in recycling and processing of smelting tailings. With a total investment of RMB1.52 billion (USD211 million), the project processes nickel and copper smelting tailings produced by Jinchuan Group and uses EDTA heavy metal ion capture technology to extract valuable metals. The project consists of three phases and the phase one is expected to go into operation this September. When all three phases run at full capacity, the project is expected to achieve an annual sales revenue of RMB10 billion (USD1.39 billion) and help create over 500 local jobs.
The project would develop a closed-loop recycling process for nonferrous metals smelting tailings and increase the resource utilization rate to more than 80% in Jinchang.
