Tongwei to build 500ktpa industrial silicon project in Ordos

Tongwei plans to enter into an agreement with Ordos government and Jungar Banner government to build a green silicon materials project at Jungar Economic Development Zone, with a total investment of RMB28 billion (USD3.92 billion).
The project includes two phases and has a total production capacity of 500,000tpa of industrial silicon and 400,000tpa of high-purity crystalline silicon. Phase one of the project, with investment estimated at RMB13-14 billion (USD1.82-1.96 billion), will add production capacity of 200,000tpa of industrial silicon and 200,000tpa of high-purity crystalline silicon, and the phase two will build capacity of 300,000tpa of industrial silicon and 200,000tpa of high-purity crystalline silicon. Each phase would take 15-18 months to complete construction and the company expects to put the phase one into operation before the end of December 2025.
