Chinese silicomanganese prices stay firm

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Apr 23 - Due to the thin profit, most suppliers in China refused to decrease their prices. The present mainstream prices of Chinese silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%min, P 0.25%max, S 0.04%max remain at RMB6,950-7,150/t (USD1,004-1,032/t) EXW D/P, in line with early this week. Based on the decreased production costs and the weak demand, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of silicomanganese would move down next week.
A producer in North China keeps their quotation for silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%min, P 0.25%max, S 0.04%max firm at RMB7,000/t (USD1,011/t) EXW D/P and they could consider concessions of no more than RMB50/t (USD7/t), on par with early this week. The producer last sold 300t at RMB6,950/t (USD1,004/t) two weeks ago and they received no inquiry over a week. Considering the decreased prices of manganese ore and coke, the producer predicts that the mainstream prices of Chinese silicomanganese would decrease further in the coming days.
Based on the annual production capacity of 250,000t of silicomanganese, the producer plans to produce around 14,000t in April, in line with last month. They have no stock at the moment.
Another producer in South China stated, "Our quotation for silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%min, P 0.25%max, S 0.04%max hovers at RMB7,100/t (USD1,025/t) and we could consider the concession as much as RMB50/t (USD7/t), unchanged from early this week". The producer last sold 500t at RMB7,050/t (USD1,018/t) two weeks ago and after that they received no inquiry. As the downstream clients purchase inactively, the trader has no intention to decrease their price currently given the thin profit but believes that the mainstream prices of Chinese silicomanganese would go down in the following week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 150,000t of silicomanganese, intends to produce 1,500t this month, in line with the previous month. The producer currently holds no inventory.
