Chinese thoriated tungsten prices up slightly

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Apr 23 - Boosted by rising prices for APT88.5%min and tungsten concentrate in April, this week Chinese tungsten electrode suppliers lift prices slightly to check market responses. Mainstream prices for Chinese thoriated tungsten grinding rod stand at RMB380-400/kg (USD54.92-57.81/kg) EXW D/P at present, up by RMB10/kg (USD1.45/kg) from one week ago. But restricted by weak end demand, insiders believe that price for Chinese thoriated tungsten grinding rod would stay unchanged in the coming week.
A producer in North China said, "We plant to lift our offer for thoriated tungsten grinding rod to RMB410/kg (USD59.26/kg) EXW D/P now with no lower prices to be accepted. But this week we made no sales yet, and we sold around 1t at RMB400/kg (USD57.81/kg) late last week. " According to the producer, in April raw material prices stay firm and keep rising, so this week he has to raise his price for thoriated tungsten grinding rod; but restricted by weak end demand, his monthly production is only around 20t at present, while downstream consumers commonly maintain hand-to-mouth purchases. Given inactive end demand, the producer believes that prices for Chinese thoriated tungsten grinding rod would level off in the coming week.
With an annual production capacity of 400t of thoriated tungsten grinding rod, the producer produced about 300t in 2022 and around 100t this year to date, expecting around 25t this month, unchanged MOM. He holds no stocks in hand now, the same as one month ago.
Another producer in North China said, "We quote thoriated tungsten grinding rod at RMB380/kg (USD54.92/kg) EXW D/P now. In view of rising raw material prices, we refuse to accept lower prices this week. This week we received one to two enquiries, and the clients are still hesitating about whether to make purchases. We last sold around 2t at RMB370/kg (USD53.48/kg) late last week." According to the producer, APT88.5%min prices he receives this week move up to RMB180,000/t (USD26,019) delivered D/P, up by nearly RMB5,000/t (USD723/t) from early this month.
