South African chrome ore prices in China firm

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Apr 23 – Most suppliers keep their prices firm since late last week. Currently, the mainstream prices for South African ROM38%min stand at RMB49-50/dmtu (USD7.10-7.25/dmtu) in warehouse Tianjin, unchanged from early this week. Insiders predict the mainstream prices would keep firm within this week as most suppliers have no plan to change their prices and prefer to wait for the purchase prices of steel mills.
A consumer from North China mentioned, "We received the quotation at RMB50/dmtu (USD7.25/dmtu) for South African ROM38%min in warehouse Tianjin this week". They did not purchase at RMB50/dmtu (USD7.25/dmtu) and purchased at RMB49/dmtu (USD7.10/dmtu) of around 2,500t early this week. They also received the prices at RMB50.5-51/dmtu (USD7.32-7.39/dmtu) today. They did not want to purchase and plan to purchase around 5,000t in mid May. They predict the mainstream prices would keep flat within this week.
The consumer, with an annual consumption capacity of 144,000t of South African chrome ore, predicts to consume around 6,440t in April, while they produced around 10,000t in March. They have around 6,000t of stocks at the moment.
A consumer from North China disclosed "We received the prices at RMB51-51.5/dmtu (USD7.39-7.47/dmtu) for South African ROM38%min in warehouse Tianjin today, unchanged from early this week". They did not purchase this week because they wanted to purchase at RMB48/dmtu (USD6.96/dmtu) at present. They last purchased at RMB49.5/dmtu (USD7.18/dmtu) of around 2,000t mid last week. They estimate the mainstream prices would keep firm within this week.
