BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Apr 23 - Discouraged by soft demand from most downstream consumers, American tantalum metal market witnessed inactive inquiries in the past week. The current mainstream prices of American tantalum metal 99.95%min decreased to USD374-382/kg D/P, down by USD2/kg from early last week. As most suppliers remain pessimistic about the market, insiders predict that the mainstream prices would decrease further in the coming week.
A trader in the U.S. claimed that they received only one inquiry this week, while they received two inquiries in total last week. They quote USD375/kg D/P for tantalum metal 99.95%min and could accept USD374/kg for orders no less than 2t at present, while they could accept USD376/kg for the same quantity when they offered USD380/kg early last week. "We received an inquiry of 2t at around USD374/kg from a regular client early last week, while we refused it," said the trader, who called the client again and finally sold around 2t at around USD374/kg to the client early this week. As most downstream consumers remain inactive in sending inquiries, the trader plans to lower their price by around USD2/kg next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would decrease by about USD2/kg in the coming week.
The trader, with a regular monthly trading volume of 2t, expects to sell around 2t in April, unchanged from March. They sold nearly 20t in 2022 and almost 8t so far in 2023. They hold no stock now, the same as last month.
