Chinese zinc die-casting alloy market sees declining demand

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Apr 23 - This week, the demand for zinc die-casting alloy keeps declining and producers bear increasing sales pressure. On Wednesday, mainstream prices for Chinese zinc die-casting alloy Zamak-3 stood at RMB22,680-23,080/t (USD3,290-3,348/t) EXW, up by RMB60/t (USD8.70/t) from Tuesday. Insiders said that orders from downstream die-casting alloy producers stay rare, so TCs for zinc die-casting alloy Zamak-3 might keep soft and prices might move down in the week to come.
A producer in South China said that their downstream customers wait and see the market this week, and current orders decrease by about 20% from March. "On Wednesday, we could accept RMB23,000/t (USD3,337/t) EXW for zinc die-casting alloy Zamak-3, while on Wednesday, we could accept a price as low as RMB22,940/t (USD3,328/t) EXW on Tuesday. We sold 20t at RMB23,010/t (USD3,338/t) EXW today and 30t at RMB22,950/t (USD3,329/t) yesterday," the source said, adding that the demand for zinc die-casting alloy keeps weak at present, so TCs for Chinese zinc die-casting alloy Zamak-3 might keep soft and prices might decline in the coming week.
With an annual production capacity of 100,000t, the producer produced about 25,000t in 2022 and expects to produce 2,000t in April, compared with about 2,500t in March. They hold about 1,500t of stocks now.
A producer in East China revealed that their orders for zinc alloy decrease significantly in April, and they expect the sales in April to decrease by about 25% from March. "On Wednesday, we offered RMB22,860/t (USD3,316/t) EXW for zinc die-casting alloy Zamak-3 and refused concessions, while on Tuesday, we could accept RMB22,800/t (USD3,308/t) EXW. We sold 30t at RMB22,860/t (USD3,316/t) EXW today and 60t at RMB22,800/t (USD3,308/t) EXW on Tuesday," the source said, adding that the demand of downstream customers for zinc die-casting alloy keeps declining now, so TCs for Chinese zinc die-casting alloy Zamak-3 might keep soft and prices might drop in the following week.
