African tantalite export market sees inactive inquiries

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Apr 23 - Discouraged by weak demand from downstream consumers, African tantalite export market saw inactive inquiries in the past week. The current mainstream export prices of African tantalite 30%min decreased to USD89-92/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa, down by USD3/lb from early last week. As most suppliers plan to lower their prices to promote sales, insiders predict that the African tantalite export market prices would decrease further in the coming week.
"We received no inquiry so far this week, while we received one inquiry last week ," said an African producer, who offers USD93/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa for tantalite 30%min and could accept USD90/lb Ta2O5 for orders no less than 2t at present, while they quoted USD95/lb Ta2O5 and could accept USD93/lb Ta2O5 for the same quantity early last week. They last sold around 2t at around USD93/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa in early April. As most consumers remain inactive in sending inquiries, the producer has no confidence in the market next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would decrease by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 in the coming week.
With an annual production capacity of 60t, the producer would produce around 5t in April, unchnaged from last month. They produced nearly 40t in 2022 and almost 20t so far in 2023. They hold around 5t of stocks now, unchanged from early last month.
Another African producer noted that they received one inquiry so far this week, while they received two inquiries in total last week. They quote USD90/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa for tantalite 30%min and could accept USD89/lb Ta2O5 for orders no less than 20t at present, while they offered USD93/lb Ta2O5 and could accept USD92/lb Ta2O5 for the same quantity early last week.
