1. Market Highlights
Chinese antimony market saw slow decline of prices in March 2023 mainly for two reasons: firstly, antimony concentrate prices in the international market loosened, which brought bad influences on the attitude of insiders in the domestic market; secondly, the downward price trend in the international market made domestic suppliers more bearish about the market outlook with a stronger wait-and-see attitude. Mainstream antimony concentrate prices declined to about RMB69,000/t (USD10,041/t) in the Chinese market in March in spite of limited supply in the market; antimony concentrate suppliers adjusted their prices slowly and downstream plants were cautious about refilling stocks. Given soft demand in the terminal market, antimony ingot prices generally showed a downward trend during the month with mainstream prices of antimony ingot 99.65%min and 99.85%min down to about RMB80,000/t (USD11,642/t) and RMB81,000/t (USD11,787/t) respectively; restricted by soft demand in the terminal market, consumers were inactive in purchasing. Driven by lower antimony ingot prices, Chinese antimony trioxide suppliers made small concessions in prices to boost sales with mainstream prices for antimony trioxide 99.5%min and 99.8%min down to around RMB70,000/t (USD10,188/t) and RMB72,000/t (USD10,479/t) respectively; in view of substantial decline of antimony trioxide prices, most end users just waited on the sidelines, leading to limited purchases in the market on the whole. Chinese ethylene glycol antimony market witnessed soft demand in March with mainstream prices for ethylene glycol antimony 57%min dropping to around RMB58,000/t (USD8,441/t); deals in the market were limited as consumers only refilled stocks based on demand against the backdrop of soft demand generally seen in the downstream polyester and chemical fiber markets. The international antimony market ran slowly in March 2023. For example, American consumers were inactive in purchasing against the backdrop of the economic inflation and took a pessimistic attitude about the market outlook dragged by sluggish demand in the terminal market; Major clients in America and Europe placed orders cautiously with mainstream prices down frequently. Mainstream prices of antimony ingot declined from USD12,400/t to about USD11,500/t in March in the international market; export prices of antimony trioxide generally showed a downward trend with mainstream export prices of antimony trioxide 99.5%min down to USD10,500/t.
