BEIJING (Asian Metal) 4 Apr 23 - Supported by strong demand from buyers, Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min producers generally increased the prices to test the market. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min lift up to RMB8,850-9,250/kg (USD1,285-1,343/kg) EXW D/P, an increase of RMB50/kg (USD7.26/kg) from the end of last week. Market participants believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would stay firm within this week as most producers insist on their prices with wait-and-see attitudes.
A producer in Southern China mentioned that they moved up the price of germanium metal 99.99%min to RMB9,400/kg (USD1,365/kg) EXW D/P at present and refused to lower the price even for firm bids, while they still insisted on RMB9,350/kg (USD1,358/kg) EXW D/P at the end of last week. They last sold around 100kg at RMB9,400/kg (USD1,365/kg) EXW D/P this Monday and earlier sold around 500kg at RMB9,350/kg (USD1,358/kg) EXW D/P one week ago. The source said, "We forecast that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would remain firm in the upcoming week as consumers' demand stays strong."
The producer, with a production capacity of 20tpy of germanium metal 99.99%min, expects to produce 1.5t this month, the same as last month. They hold around 1t of stocks now, in line with the end of March. They produced about 13t totally in 2022 and around 4t in the past three months in 2023.
"We increased the price of germanium metal 99.99%min to RMB9,600/kg (USD1,394/kg) EXW D/P at present and could not accept any price lower than RMB9,500/kg (USD1,379/kg) EXW D/P for regular clients," another producer in Southern China stated, adding that they still could accept RMB9,000/kg (USD1,307/kg) EXW D/P one week ago. They last sold around 500kg at RMB9,000/kg (USD1,307/kg) EXW D/P early last week. They think that the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would stay firm in the upcoming week given that the raw materials' supply keeps tight presently.
