Chinese caustic calcined magnesia prices unchanged

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 29 Mar 23 - Supported by production cost, most suppliers of caustic calcined magnesia still hold their prices unchanged this week in spite of weak market demand. Therefore, the current mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia 90%min 200mesh stand at RMB950-1,000/t (USD138-147/t) EXW D/A 180 days, unchanged from last week. Insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would keep stable in the coming week as they had strong intention to firm their prices steady.
"We quoted around RMB900/t (USD131/t) EXW D/P without any concession for caustic calcined magnesia 90%min 200 mesh (SiO2 5%max) over the past week and sold about 100t last week. We didn't close any deal this week due to no inquiry," a producer in Liaoning stated, adding that they suspended production from the middle of this month due to weak market demand. Driven by production cost, most suppliers insisted on their prices and predicted that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would level off in the upcoming days.
With an annual production capacity of 100,000t, they produced about 2,000t this month, in line with last month. Now they hold around 1,000t of inventories.
Another producer in Liaoning reported, "We could consider accepting the price as low as RMB900/t (USD131/t) EXW D/P for caustic calcined magnesia 90%min 200mesh (SiO2 5%max) and sold around 200t at such price yesterday," the producer noted. They hold their prices unchanged from last week but they didn't conclude today due to no inquiry. As the market saw few deals during the past month, they always kept a low operation rate. They estimated that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would keep stable in the coming week supported by production cost.
Based on a production capacity of 800,000tpy, they produced about 30,000t this month, unchanged MoM, holding an inventory of 10,000t currently.
