BEIJING (Asian Metal) 29 Mar 23 - Sohar Aluminium, a major aluminum smelter in Oman, would use around 400t of aluminum fluoride in March, down from around 500t in the previous month, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We might use 400t this month down from around 500t last month," said the source, adding that they started technology improvement from early this year, which reduced the unit consumption volume. The aluminum smelter is running at around 390,000tpy based on the production capacity of 400,000tpy.
With the consumption capacity of 6,000tpy, they used around 6,000t in 2022 and around 1,000t during the first two months of this year with present inventories at around 3,000t. They plan to issue a tender of purchase from late March targeting around 6,000t . They once ordered from Africa and the Middle East, and plan to buy from China this year.
Present mainstream prices for aluminum fluoride 61%min from China keep at USD1,290-1,320/t FOB China, stable from late last week. The purchase demand for Chinese aluminum fluoride remains strong now for the competitive prices.
