BEIJING (Asian Metal) 29 Mar 23 - Driven by higher prices of crude selenium, most Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min suppliers marked up the prices over the past week and the market saw active inquiries. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min hover at RMB124-127/kg (USD18.02-18.45/kg) delivered D/P, up by RMB5/kg (USD0.73/kg) from the end of last week. Considering that suppliers generally tend to move up the prices further and the supply keeps tight, market participants believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min would go up in the coming week.
A South-China-based producer noted that they increased the price of selenium dioxide 98%min to RMB140/kg (USD20.34/kg) delivered D/P at present and could not accept any price lower than RMB135/kg (USD19.61/kg) delivered D/P even for firm bids, while they still could accept RMB130/kg (USD18.89/kg) delivered D/P last week. They last sold around 1t at RMB130/kg (USD18.89/kg) delivered D/P last week and prefer to watch the market with firm offer now. The source said, "We forecast that the prevailing prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min would stay firm within this week supported by higher crude selenium prices now."
The producer, with a production capacity of 1,200tpy of selenium dioxide 98%min, expects to produce around 50t this month, unchanged from last month. They hold more than 20t of stocks now, in line with last month.
A trader in Southern China disclosed that they moved up the price to RMB130/kg (USD18.89/kg) delivered D/P for selenium dioxide 98%min now and could not accept any price cheaper than RMB125/kg (USD18.16/kg) delivered D/P for regular clients. However, they still insisted on RMB120/kg (USD17.44/kg) delivered D/P one week ago and last sold around 2.5t at RMB125/kg (USD18.16/kg) delivered D/P early this week. "We think that the mainstream prices of Chinese selenium dioxide 98%min would keep firm in the rest days of this week as the crude selenium prices keep rising now," the source said.
The trader, having a regular monthly trading volume of 10t of selenium dioxide 98%min, holds around 15t of stocks now, in line with the end of last month. They expect to sell around 10t this month and sold around 5t last month. They sold around 200t in 2022 and around 20t in the past two months in 2023.
