Chinese terbium metal suppliers hold prices steady

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Mar 23 - Although buyers purchase inactively, Chinese terbium metal suppliers held prices steady over the past five days due to their firm costs. The current Chinese terbium metal mainstream prices stood at RMB12,300-12,500/kg (USD1,787-1,816/kg) EXW T/T 30 days, without much change from late last week. In view of stable terbium oxide 99.99%min prices, insiders forecasted that the Chinese terbium metal mainstream prices would keep standing at current levels in the upcoming week.
A producer in North China revealed that he holds terbium metal quotation firm at about RMB12,400/kg (USD1,802/kg) EXW T/T 30 days and considers selling at around RMB12,350/kg (USD1,794/kg) now, the same as one week ago. "I last sold 200kg at around RMB12,350/kg (USD1,794/kg) late last week," said the producer, who couldn't purchase terbium oxide 99.99%min at prices below RMB9,700/kg (USD1,409/kg) EXW D/P now, without much change from late last week. Supported by firm costs, he has no intention to lower prices and forecasted that the Chinese terbium metal mainstream prices would continue standing at current levels in the upcoming week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 48t of terbium metal, produced around five tons so far this year, compared with approximately 29t last year. He expects to produce around 2.1t this month, without much change MoM. He holds an inventory of around one ton at present, up by 500kg MoM.
A consumer in South China noted that his regular suppliers still quote about RMB12,400/kg (USD1,802/kg) EXW T/T 30 days for terbium metal to him at present. Based on his experience, he could buy at around RMB12,300/kg (USD1,787/kg) now, in line with late last week. He concluded his latest procurement at the end of February, when he purchased one ton at about RMB16,000/kg (USD2,325/kg). "In view of the abundant supply, I still have no intention to replenish terbium metal again in the coming week," said the consumer, who couldn't bargain for better prices from suppliers, he predicted that the Chinese terbium metal mainstream prices would not change much in the coming week.
With an annual consumption capacity of 48t of terbium metal, the consumer expects to consume around two tons in March, without much change MoM. He consumed approximately 22t and five tons respectively in 2022 and so far in 2023. He has about three tons of stocks now, down by two tons MoM.
