BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Mar 23 - Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min producers began to offer actively since the end of last week, while the market movement slowly over the past two weeks in view of wait-and-see attitudes from consumers. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min hover at RMB8,700-9,100/kg (USD1,264-1,322/kg) EXW D/P, unchanged from the end of last week. Market participants believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would keep stable within this week driven by firm prices from producers now.
A South-China-based producer disclosed that they began to offer germanium metal 99.99%min since the end of last week and insist on RMB9,000/kg (USD1,308/kg) EXW D/P for germanium metal 99.99%min at present even for firm bids, the same as late last week. As their consumers generally watch the market, they did not close any deal this Monday and only last sold around 50kg at RMB9,000/kg (USD1,308/kg) EXW D/P at the end of last week. The source said, "We forecast that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would stay stable in the coming week supported by firm prices from producers, while the market would keep seeing inactive deals."
The producer, based on a production capacity of 60tpy of germanium metal 99.99%min, expects to produce around 3.1t this month and produced about 3t last month. They hold no stock now, unchanged from the end of last month. They produced about 30t in 2022 and around 5t in the past two months in 2023.
A consumer in Northern China noted that their regular suppliers began to offer germanium metal 99.99%min at RMB9,000/kg (USD1,308/kg) EXW D/P now and few of the suppliers could accept any lower price even for firm bids, in line with last Friday. They last purchased around 100kg at RMB9,200/kg (USD1,337/kg) D/A 180 days EXW in the middle of last week and then began to watch the market with a target price of RMB8,900/kg (USD1,293/kg) EXW D/P. "We are of the opinion that the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would stay steady in the following week in view of firm prices from producers now," the source said.
