Chinese zirconium carbonate market sees slow purchases

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Mar 23 - Upon the firm offers from suppliers but slow demand, the current mainstream prices of zirconium carbonate 40%min in China hover at RMB24,500-25,500/t (USD3,565-3,710/t) EXW D/P, unchanged from early last week. Given the slow purchases, insiders predict the mainstream prices of zirconium carbonate 40%min in China would turn soft next week.
A trader in North China revealed that he bid RMB24,000/t (USD3,492/t) EXW D/P for 20t of zirconium carbonate 40%min last Friday but the supplier insisted on RMB24,500/t (USD3,565/t), in line with his price early last week, and the trader delayed the purchase. "I last bought 40t at RMB23,500/t (USD3,419/t) in early February, and most of my overseas clients couldn't accept the price increase and hang up purchases in March," revealed the trader last Friday. He added that he usually could sell 100t every month but only 50t in February and no sales in March, and he foresees the mainstream prices of zirconium carbonate 40%min in China would turn soft next week dragged by the sluggish demand.
The trader, based on a regular monthly purchase amount for zirconium carbonate of about 100t, expects to buy 20t at most in March, down by 80t from last month, holding no stocks.
Another trader in North China disclosed that he bought 20t of zirconium carbonate 40%min at RMB24,500/t (USD3,565/t) EXW D/P last Friday from a regular supplier who insisted on the same early last week. "Most suppliers hold prices firm as the price of zirconium oxychloride 36%min in China increased by around RMB1,000/t (USD145/t) in the past one month, but my purchase amount in March only accounts for about 30% of regular level as most oversea clients hang up purchases," disclosed the trader last Friday. He foresees the mainstream prices of zirconium carbonate 40%min in China would weaken next week discouraged by the sluggish demand.
