BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Mar 23 - Upon the increasing demand in Brazil and tightening spot supply in local market, this month the Brazilian silicon metal market sees increasing import requests, and the current mainstream import prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Brazil hover at USD2,250-2,350/t CIF Brazil this week. Given the firm offers from international suppliers and recovering demand in Brazil, insiders predict the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Brazil would go up next week.
A trader in Brazil disclosed that he usually imports once every two weeks but he could purchase once every week in March as the demand in Brazil turned better in March against February and January. "The current offer for silicon metal 5-5-3 from a Chinese supplier stands at USD2,300/t CIF Brazil, and I purchase 50t at the price this week and another 50t at the same price early last week," revealed the trader on Thursday. He added that he could sell silicon metal 5-5-3 at BRL23.5/kg (USD4.4/kg) D.D.P to plants now due to the short supply from local producers, and he predicts the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Brazil would edge up upon the tight spot supply in Brazil and firm offers from China.
With a regular monthly trading volume of 100t of silicon metal, the trader expects to import abut 200t in March, an increase of around 100t from last month, holding around 100t in stock.
Another trader in Brazil disclosed that he imports around 300t of silicon metal in March, almost doubled against the amount in February as the local supply turns tightening while the demand in Brazil keeps recovering. "The current price for 300t of silicon metal 5-5-3 from local Brazilian suppliers stands at USD2,900/t D.D.P to warehouse, if for one or two truckloads about 30-60t, the price would reach over USD3,000/t now, so I increased 100t of silicon metal 5-5-3 from China at USD2,350/t CIF Brazil this week, in line with my purchase price for 100t early last week," revealed the trader on Thursday. He added that the major suppliers could have spot supply until May and some smaller producer stopped production for maintenance, while the demand from Brazilian local customers increased this month MoM, and he foresees the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Brazil would go up next week.
