BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Mar 23 - Bautek Minerals Industrials (BMI), a major bauxite producer in Brazil, received a new mining license two months ago, covering a reserves of around 200 million tonnes, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We secured a new mining license with the reserves of around 200 million tonnes in January," said the source, adding that the mining area is located in north Brazil and would provide bauxite Al2O3 42%min SiO2 1%max. They do not plan to start bauxite production soon this year as they intend to build an alumina refinery with the production capacity of 1-2 million tonnes per year in the future.
Their former bauxite mining area in the middle of Brazil could produce over 120,000t in March, similar to last month and sells bauxite to a local regular alumina refinery. They produced around 1 . 5 million tonnes in 2022 and target the same volume this year, based on the production capacity of 2 million tonnes per year.
Current prevailing export prices for bauxite Al2O3 50%min ReSiO2 4%max keep at USD32-35/dt FOB Brazil, stable from one week ago. For the high freight from Brazil, Chinese demand for Brazilian bauxite keeps weak.
