BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Mar 23 - Dragged by the sluggish demand, the current mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Europe moved down by EUR50/t (USD54/t) to EUR2,700-2,800/t (USD2,936-3,045/t) D
"I sold 100t of silicon metal 5-5-3 Norway origin at EUR2,800/t (USD3,045/t) D.D.P today, down by EUR50/t (USD54/t) from my price early last week," revealed a trader in West Europe on Thursday. He added that the Norway producer moved prices down this week to around EUR2,700/t (USD2,936/t) in warehouse Rotterdam dragged by the shrinking demand from aluminum plants in Europe, and he predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Europe would go down further next week dragged by the sluggish demand and lower production cost in Norway than other producers.
The trader, based on a regular monthly trading volume of 200t of silicon metal, foresees to sell around 100t at most in March, down by around 100t from last month, holding around 50t in stock.
Another trader in West Europe revealed that the current offers for silicon metal 5-5-3 from Iceland or Norway suppliers hit EUR2,700-2,750/t (USD2,936-2,990/t) in warehouse, and he bought 80t at EUR2,750/t (USD2,990/t) D.D.P this week, down by EUR50/t (USD54/t) from the supplier's price early last week . "The price of silicon metal from these two countries already lower than the import prices of Chinese silicon metal as the demand in Europe keeps shrinking, and I foresee the mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Europe still have room to go down next week upon the low production cost in Norway and Iceland," revealed the trader on Thursday.
With a regular monthly trading volume of 150t of silicon metal, foresees to sell around 80t at most in March, down by around 50t from last month, keeping no stocks.
