GBC ready for loading bauxite by mini-cape size vessels

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Mar 23 - Ghana Bauxite Company (GBC), the only bauxite producer in Ghana, is now ready for loading bauxite by mini-cape size vessels with loading volume around 150,000t, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"Our port of Takoradi is now ready for loading bauxite by mini-cape size vessels with volume around 150,000t," said the source, who used to export bauxite by vessels with loading volume around 70,000t. They expanded the loading capacity of the port.
With the production capacity of 4 million tonnes per year, they produced over 100,000t in February and might produce 300,000t in March, with present inventories at around 200,000t, focusing on high grade bauxite Al2O3 50%min SiO2 2%max. They produced around 1 million tonnes in 2022 and over 400,000t so far this year.
The present mainstream offer for Ghana bauxite keeps at around USD40/dt FOB Ghana, stable from one week ago. Chinese demand for Ghana bauxite would increase as the mini-cape size vessel will reduce the freight significantly.
