Chinese calcined bauxite market witnesses steady prices

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Mar 23 – Most producers firmed their prices in the past week encouraged by the high raw bauxite prices, though the demand from refractory market remained dormant. Thus, the current prevailing prices for Chinese calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.25%max B.D. 3.1min stand at RMB2,650-2,750/t (USD391-405/t) EXW D/P, unchanged from early this week. Since most producers prefer to insist on their prices considering the high production costs, market participants hold the view that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would keep stable in the upcoming week.
A producer in Shanxi quoted RMB2,450/t (USD357/t) Ex-VAT EXW D/P for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.55%max B.D. 3.1min today with no discount, on par with early this week. The producer claimed, "We signed our latest deal early last week when we sold about 120t at around RMB2,450/t (USD357/t)". Although the refractory market demand stays weak, based on the supply shortage of the raw bauxite, they determined to keep their price unchanged and predict that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would stay steady in the following week.
The producer, with a yearly production capacity of 60,000t, plans to produce about 2,000t in March, in line with February. Currently they have an inventory of nearly 1,000t.
Another producer in Henan revealed, "We held our quotation for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.6%max K2O+Na2O 0.35%max B.D. 3.1min on par with early this week at RMB2,500/t (USD364/t) Ex-VAT EXW D/P with no counteroffer". They last sold out approximately 120t this Monday to a local plant at around RMB2,500/t (USD364/t). Despite that the downstream market demand remains soft, given the high prices of raw bauxite, they prefer to keep their price unchanged and hold the view that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would remain stable in the forthcoming week.
On basis of a yearly production capacity of 20,000t, they plan to produce about 500t this month, unchanged MoM. They have about 180t in stock presently.
