Chinese dead burned magnesia prices decrease

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Mar 23 – Due to the weak demand from the downstream market, most producers began to decline their prices from early this week. Therefore, the current mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia MgO 95%min, SiO2 2.2%max, CaO 1.8%max, B.D. 3.2min, 0-30mm stand at RMB2,600-2,650/t (USD378-385/t) EXW D/A 180 days, down by RMB50/t (USD7/t) from late last week. Supported by high production costs, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia would stay stable in the following week.
A producer in Dashiqiao said, "We lowered our price yesterday to promote sales and now offer RMB2,650/t (USD385/t) EXW D/P for dead burned magnesia MgO 95%min, SiO2 1.7%max, CaO 1.9%max, B.D. 3.17min, 0-30mm with no concession and we sold around 500t at such price on Monday". While they sold nearly 300t at RMB2,700/t (USD392/t) early last week, when they refused to consider any counteroffer till the end of the week. Despite weak demand, they intend to hold their prices unchanged as they last purchased nearly 5,000t of anthracite at RMB3,300t (USD479/t) delivered from Ningxia early last month. They predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia would stay steady in the coming week.
Based on the production capacity of 100,000t of dead burned magnesia, the producer expects to produce approximately 8,000t in March, similar to last month. They hold approximately 7,000t of stocks currently.
Another producer in Dashiqiao claimed, "We have to decrease our price to maintain sales for dead burned magnesia MgO 97%min, SiO2 2%max, CaO 1.4%max, B.D. 3.18min, 0-30mm to RMB2,600/t (USD378/t) EXW D/P and refused any lower prices from early this week". They last sold about 300t at RMB2,600/t (USD378/t) early this week and sold about 200t at RMB2,650/t (USD385/t) around ten days ago with no more concessions during the week. As they last purchased nearly 3,000t of anthracite at RMB2,750/t (USD399/t) delivered from Ningxia early this month, they prefer to stick to the current price and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia would remain unchanged in the forthcoming week.
With a production capacity of 90,000tpy, they predict to produce about 5,000t in March, unchanged MoM. Now they have no inventory.
