Chinese ferrosilicon 75%min prices soften

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Mar 23 - Even though most producers held their prices unchanged today due to high raw material prices, most participants held negative attitudes about the market for weak demand from the down stream. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese ferrosilicon 75%min 200-500mm stand at RMB7,900-8,100/t (USD1,147-1,176/t) EXW D/P, unchanged from early this week. Insiders hold the view that the mainstream prices of Chinese ferrosilicon 75%min would weaken by the end of this week in consideration of sluggish demand.
A producer from Inner Mongolia disclosed, "Our best offer for ferrosilicon 75%min 200-500mm stood at RMB8,000/t (USD1,162/t) EXW D/P and we stuck to such price since early this week." They didn't close any deal today and sold 500t at this price yesterday. The producer further revealed that they bought 500t of semi coke at RMB1,500/t (USD218/t) early this week and the supplier insisted on this price from late last week. They hold negative attitude towards the market because half of their regular clients suspended consumption early this week and believe the mainstream prices of Chinese ferrosilicon 75%min would keep flat temporarily within this week given weak demand.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 66,000t, plans to produce about 4,500t in March, in line with last month. They don't have any inventory currently.
A consumer from Shanxi mentioned that the best price for ferrosilicon 75%min 200-500mm they received today stood at RMB7,900/t (USD1,147/t) EXW D/P and most suppliers insisted on such price from early this week. They purchased 100t at this price both today and yesterday. "We purchased around 100t a day from last week while we purchased 500t once a week before mid of March and predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese ferrosilicon 75%min would soften within this week", noted the consumer.
Based on the consumption capacity of 36,000tpy, the consumer expects to consume around 2,400t in March, on par with the previous month. They hold about nearly 400t in stock at the moment.
