BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Mar 23 - Dragged by the dropping prices in China, the current mainstream import prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in Japan moved down by USD30/t to USD2,480-2,580/t CIF Japan this week from late last week. Given the stabilizing prices in China, insiders predict the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in Japan would go steady next week.
A trader in Japan revealed that the current offer for silicon metal 3-3-03 hits USD2,500/t CIF Japan with the discount of USD20/t at most for firm bids from a regular Chinese supplier who insisted on USD2,520/t late last week. "Most Chinese exporters marked prices down by USD20-30/t this week due to the dropped prices in China," revealed the trader on Wednesday who last bought 60t at USD2,580/t two weeks ago. He added that more and more silicon metal producers in Yunnan plan to stop production, and he predicts the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in China would keep stable next week upon the stabilizing offers from Chinese suppliers.
Based on a regular monthly trading volume of 100t of silicon metal, the trader expects to purchase around 50t in March, down by about 50t from last month, keeping no stocks at present.
Another trader in Japan disclosed that the current offer for silicon metal 3-3-03 stands at USD2,550/t CIF Japan with the discount of USD30/t at most for firm bids, while the supplier insisted on USD2,550/t CIF early last week. "I last bought 100t at USD2,560/t in early March, and my Chinese supplier marked prices down this week upon the decreased prices in China, but most of them became reluctant to move prices down further as more and more plants in Yunnan and Fujian stopped production," disclosed the trader on Wednesday.
