Bayi Ferroalloys decreases silicomanganese production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Mar 23 - Guangxi Bayi Ferroalloys Co., one of the major producers of silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%max, P 0.25%max, S 0.08%max in South China, predicts to decline their output to 5,000t in March, a source from this company revealed to Asian Metal.
The source mentioned, "We predict to decrease our silicomanganese production to 5,000t this month because we think the market shows a sluggish demand and the production costs stood at a high level". The producer produced approximately 10,000t of silicomanganese last month.
With an annual production capacity of 220,000t of silicomanganese, the producer has no stock at the moment. They intend to keep the monthly production of 5,000t until the end of May.
Although the market shows a soft demand, the majority of silicomanganese producers in China have no intentions to move their quotations due to the high production costs. Therefore, the current prevailing prices of Chinese silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%max, P 0.25%max, S 0.08%max hovers at RMB7,150-7,350/t (USD1,038-1,067/t) EXW D/P, on par with the beginning of this week. Despite the decreased prices of manganese ore and the soft demand, insiders expect that the mainstream prices of silicomanganese would stay unchanged in the coming days supported by the thin profit.
