Baotou Steel restarts the production of NGO electrical steel

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Mar 23 - As a major producer of non-grain oriented electrical steel in North China, Baotou Iron and Steel Co. (Baotou Steel) restarted the production at the beginning of this month and might produce about 3,000t in March, disclosed a source of the company.
"We resumed the production of NGO electrical steel early this month after the suspension last September," explained the source, adding that they might just produce around 3,000t this month. According to him, they have no spot materials in hand for the time being, unchanged from last month.
Located in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, the company produces NGO electrical steel with grades of 470-1,000. Based on the annual production capacity of about 200,000t, it recorded an output of about 60,000t last year.
The mainstream prices of NGO electrical steel 800 from Baotou Steel remained at about RMB5,750/t (USD835/t) D/P in warehouse Suzhou on Wednesday, the same as those on Tuesday. Insiders predict that Chinese NGO electrical steel prices would maintain stable in the coming week because of customers' slow purchasing activities and high prices of steel mills.
