Chinese cadmium ingot prices stay rising

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Mar 23 - Chinese cadmium ingot 99.99%min market saw active inquiries over the past week considering that most producers insisted on moving up the prices in view of tight supply. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese cadmium ingot 99.99%min hover at RMB36,000-36,500/t (USD2.37-2.40/lb) EXW D/P, an increase of RMB3,000/t (USD0.20/lb) from the end of last week. Market participants believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese cadmium ingot 99.99%min would stay going up in the coming week given that most producers tend to move up the prices further.
A South-China-based producer noted that they insist on RMB36,200/t (USD2.39/lb) EXW D/P for cadmium ingot 99.99%min at present even for firm bids, while hold no stock for selling till the end of this month. However, their consumers still would like to bid the materials below RMB33,000/t (USD2.17/lb) EXW D/P one week ago and one of them bided around 33t at RMB36,200/t (USD2.39/lb) EXW D/P early this week from them. The source said, "We forecast that the mainstream prices of Chinese cadmium ingot 99.99%min would stay rising to RMB40,000/t (USD2.64/lb) EXW D/P in the coming week due to tight supply and strong demand now."
The producer, based on a production capacity of 1,800tpy of cadmium ingot 99.99%min, expects to produce around 30t this month, while did not produce last month. They hold no inventory presently, in line with the end of last month. They produced about 910t in 2022 and around 33t till now in 2023.
A trader in Southern China disclosed that they moved up the price of cadmium ingot 99.99%min to RMB37,000/t (USD2.44/lb) EXW D/P for cadmium ingot 99.99%min and could not accept any lower price even for regular clients as they even could not build any materials now. They still insisted on RMB36,000/t (USD2.37/lb) EXW D/P late last week and last sold around 33t at RMB37,000/t (USD2.44/lb) EXW D/P at the end of last week. The source said, "We are of the opinion that the prevailing prices of Chinese cadmium ingot 99.995%min would remain increasing next week as producers generally hold no stock for selling."
The trader, having a regular monthly trading volume of 100t of cadmium ingot 99.99%min, holds around 30t of stocks now, down by about 30t from the end of last month. They expect to sell 100t this month and sold around 100t last month. They sold about 1,200t in 2022 and about 200t since early 2023.
