BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Mar 23 - Boosted by the rising prices in the international market, HRC suppliers in Thailand keep raising prices this week, but end users remain cautious about purchasing
"The most competitive price we got for HRC SS400 3.0mm*1,500mm hovers at THB26,500/t (USD770/t) this week, and we bought 300t at the price early this week," noted a local consumer . "Stimulated by the continuous price increases of overseas steel mills, suppliers keep eager to move up prices and refuse to provide any discounts," added the consumer . However, he is not in a hurry to purchase seeing the potential supply increase following the cancellation of anti-dumping duty against HRC from China and Malaysia . "We do not think prices of HRC would keep rising, and thus separate purchasing volumes . In February, we purchased 500t at one time," added the consumer, predicting flat prices of HRC in the following several days.
Based on the consumption capacity of 3,500tpm, the consumer might consume 3,000t of HRC in March, similar to February. The consumption volume in the first quarter of 2023 would achieve 8,000t, against 39,000t or so in 2022 . Presently, the consumer holds about 2,000t of inventories.
"Suppliers moved up prices of HRC SS400 3.0mm*1,500mm to THB27,700/t (USD805/t) this week, but we refused to buy. We last bought 150t of the material at THB27,000/t (USD784/t) early this month," stated another local consumer . Attributing the price increase to the rising prices of overseas suppliers, the consumer does not expect for a further price rise . "Prices of raw materials such as steel billet and steel scrap keep flat, and the demand from downstream industries remains soft before the Songkran Festival," explained the consumer, who does not plan to purchase in the following one week, with wait-and-see attitude.
Holding around 400t of stocks, the consumer might consume 150t of HRC in March, identical to February. With the consumption capacity of 200tpm, he might use 400t of HRC in the first quarter of 2023, against 1,800t or so in 2022.
