Chinese fused magnesia market sees stable prices

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 22 Mar 23 - The current mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia MgO 97.5%min, Ca/Si=2min, B.D. 3.5min, 0-30mm stand stable at RMB5,400-5,600/t (USD785-814/t) EXW D/A 180 days from last Friday given dim market and high production costs. In view of thin profit and sluggish demand, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would keep unchanged in the week to come.
A producer in Anshan revealed, "We offered RMB5,200/t (USD756/t) EXW D/P for fused burned magnesia MgO 97.5%min, Ca/Si=2min, B.D. 3.5min, 0-20cm today and could accept no concession, unchanged from last Friday". They closed no deal today and last sold around 100t at such price early this week. As they last purchased around 3,000t of caustic calcined magnesia MgO 98%min at RMB1,900/t (USD276/t) delivered from Xiuyan mid last month, they plan to stick to their current price and predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would remain stable in the forthcoming week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 15,000t of fused magnesia, predicts to produce nearly 1,000t in March, in line with last month. They have no inventory at present.
"We quoted RMB5,400/t (USD785/t) EXW D/P and considered no more concessions for fused magnesia MgO 97.5%min, Ca/Si=2min, B.D. 3.5min, 0-30mm since last Friday", said another producer in Dashiqiao, adding that they offered RMB5,400/t (USD785/t) to a client who wanted to buy 100t today and they believed that they would close the deal at such price late this week. They last sold about 600t at such price late last week. Supported by high production cost, the producer believes that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would keep flat in the following week.
Based on the production capacity of 100,000tpy of fused magnesia, the producer predicts to produce approximately 7,000t in March, similar to last month. They hold approximately 1,000t of stocks now.
