Indian metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal import market sees weak demand

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 22 Mar 23 - The Indian metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min) import market witnessed slow buying activities over the past week due to weak demand from buyers. As suppliers prefer to hold stocks rather than mark down prices, the current mainstream prices of metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min) in India hover at USD3.00-3.15/kg CIF India, in line with one week ago. Given that suppliers still have no intention to lower prices, insiders forecasted that the metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min) import prices in India would continue hovering at current levels in the upcoming week.
An Indian importer forecasted that his metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min) import volume in March would go down by around seven tons MoM due to softened demand from his importers. His regular Chinese exporters still quote about USD3.10/kg CIF India to him. Based on his experience, he could buy at about USD3.05/kg now, without much change from one week ago. "I concluded my latest import in mid-March, when he imported 24t at around USD3.05/kg," said the importer, who failed to receive any inquiries after his latest procurement. As suppliers refuse to lower prices, he forecasted that the mainstream import prices of metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min) in India would still not change in the coming week.
The importer, with a typical monthly import volume of 20t of metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min), expect to import around 24t this month, compared with about 31t last month. He imported approximately 272t and 51t respectively in 2022 and so far in 2023. He doesn't hold stock at present, unchanged MoM.
Another Indian importer predicted that his metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min) import volume in March would decline by around 27t MoM as a result of his clients' wait-and-see attitudes. His regular Chinese exporters still quote around USD3.20/kg CIF India to him at the moment. Based on his experience, he could buy at about USD3.15/kg now, the same as one week ago. He last imported 27t at around USD3.15/kg in mid-February. "I couldn't bargain for better prices from my suppliers and forecasted that the Indian metallurgical grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min) mainstream import prices in India would not change in the coming week," said the importer.
