BEIJING (Asian Metal) 22 Mar 23 - Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min market ran smoothly early this week and producers generally still held back from selling with bullish attitudes. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min increase by RMB150/kg (USD22/kg) from early last week to RMB8,750-9,050/kg (USD1,273-1,317/kg) EXW D/P. Insiders are of the opinion that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would stay firm within this week supported by unchanged prices from producers now.
A South-China-based producer disclosed that they hold back from selling germanium metal 99.99%min at present as they hold limited stock and also could not purchase raw materials due to tight supply. They only could accept RMB9,200/kg (USD1,339/kg) EXW D/P for regular consumers now, unchanged from last week. They last sold around 100kg at RMB9,200/kg (USD1,339/kg) EXW D/P early March and then kept watching the market. The source said, "In view of tight supply of raw materials, we believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would stay firm in rest days of this week."
The producer, based on a production capacity of 12tpy of germanium metal 99.99%min, expects to produce around 900kg this month, almost unchanged from last month. They hold limited inventory presently, in line with the end of February. They produced about 10t in 2022 and around 1.6t totally till now in 2023.
A consumer in Southern China noted that they last purchased around 50kg of germanium metal 99.99%min at RMB8,900/kg (USD1,295/kg) EXW D/P last week from a trader and usually purchase once a month. Their regular producers generally insist on RMB9,200/kg (USD1,339/kg) EXW D/P for germanium metal 99.99%min now, unchanged from last week. "We expect that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would keep stable within this week supported by firm prices from producers," the source said.
