Chinese dead burned magnesia prices down

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 22 Mar 23 - As the market demand remains soft, most producers started to decline their prices from yesterday. Therefore, the current mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia MgO 97%min, Ca/Si=2min, B.D. 3.29min, 0-30mm stand at RMB2,400-2,500/t (USD349-363/t) EXW D/A 180 days, down by RMB50/t (USD7/t) from late last week. As most producers still intend to hold the prices firm supported by production costs, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia would stay stable in the following week.
A producer in Dashiqiao said, "We lowered our price yesterday to promote sales and now offer RMB2,400/t (USD349/t) EXW D/P for dead burned magnesia MgO 97.5%min, Ca/Si=2min, B.D. 3.28min, 0-30mm with no concession and we sold around 200t at such price today". While they sold nearly 100t at RMB2,450/t (USD356/t) last Tuesday, when they refused to consider any counteroffer till the end of the week. Despite weak demand, they intend to hold their prices unchanged as they last purchased nearly 2,000t of coking coal at RM2,400t (USD349/t) delivered from Shanxi late last month. They predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia would stay steady in the coming week.
Based on the production capacity of 50,000t of dead burned magnesia, the producer estimates to produce nearly 3,000t in March, similar to last month. They hold approximately 1,000t of stocks currently.
"We have to decrease our price to relieve inventory pressure for dead burned magnesia MgO 97%min, Ca/Si=2min, B.D. 3.30min, 0-30mm to RMB2,450/t (USD356/t) EXW D/A 180 days with no more concessions from yesterday", claimed another producer in Haicheng. They last sold about 800t at such price yesterday and sold about 500t at RMB2,500/t (USD363/t) early last week, when they refused to consider any counteroffer till the end of the week. Supported by high production costs, they prefer to stick to the current price and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese dead burned magnesia would remain unchanged in the forthcoming week.
With a production capacity of 300,000tpy, they predict to produce about 20,000t in March, unchanged MoM. Now they have an inventory of about 15,000t at present.
