Chinese silicomanganese prices stay firm

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Mar 23 - Given the high production costs despite the increased inventory, most silicomanganese suppliers in China hold their prices unchanged. Therefore, the current mainstream prices of Chinese silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%min, P 0.25%max, S 0.04%max hovers at RMB7,150-7,350/t (USD1,036-1,065/t) EXW D/P, unchanged from late last week. Although some producers have intentions to decrease production, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of silicomanganese would remain stable in the following days due to the decreased production costs.
A producer in South China stated that their current quotation for silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%min, P 0.25%max, S 0.04%max stays at RMB7,300/t (USD1,057/t) EXW D/P with the concession as much as RMB50/t (USD7/t), on par with late last week. The producer noticed, "We refused a client whi bid RMB7,200/t (USD1,043/t) for 300t today and we last sold 200t at RMB7,250/t (USD1,050/t) mid last week". Despite the soft demand, the producer prefers to firm their price and thinks that the prevailing prices of Chinese silicomanganese would stay flat this week supported by the high production costs.
With the annual production capacity of 58,000t of silicomanganese, the producer intends to produce around 2,500t in March, unchanged from that in February. They hold no inventory at present.
Another producer in North China mentioned, "We offer RMB7,200/t (USD1,043/t) EXW D/P for silicomanganese Mn 65%min, Si 17%min, P 0.25%max, S 0.04%max and we could not accept any price lower than that, in line with the end of last week". The producer noted that they received no inquiry today and last sold 500t at RMB7,200/t (USD1,043/t) late last week. Given the thin profit despite the weak demand, the producer intends to stick to their price and believes that the mainstream prices of Chinese silicomanganese would remain steady in the coming days.
The producer, based on the annual production capacity of 300,000t of silicomanganese, would like to produce about 20,000t this month, in line with last month. The producer has about 15,000t of stocks now.
