Chinese calcined bauxite prices stay unchanged

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 17 Mar 23 – Despite that the demand from refractory market remains weak, most producers kept their prices firm this week supported by the high raw bauxite prices. Hence, the current prevailing prices for Chinese calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.25%max B.D. 3.1min stand at RMB2,650-2,750/t (USD391-405/t) EXW D/P, on par with early this week. As most producers intend to insist on their prices in light of the high production costs, insiders estimate that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would keep stable in the forthcoming week.
A producer in Guizhou quoted RMB2,350/t (USD343/t) Ex-VAT EXW D/P for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.55%max B.D. 3.1min today and could give no discount, unchanged from early this week. The producer disclosed, "We last sign a deal of nearly 200t early last week at around RMB2,350/t (USD343/t)". Despite that the refractory market demand stays in low position, in view of the supply shortage of the raw bauxite, they consider to keep their price unchanged and predict that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would stay steady in the following week.
The producer, with a yearly production capacity of 60,000t, plans to produce about 800t in March, while they have no output last month due to Spring festival holiday. Currently they have an inventory of nearly 600t.
Another producer in Henan revealed, "We held our quotation for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.6%max K2O+Na2O 0.35%max B.D. 3.0min on par with early this week at RMB2,150/t (USD312/t) Ex-VAT EXW D/P and could make no counteroffer". They last sold out about 80t late last week to a local refractory plan at about RMB2,150/t (USD312/t). Although the downstream market demand stays dormant, considering the high prices of raw bauxite, they decide to keep their price stable and believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would remain stable in the following week.
On basis of a yearly production capacity of 50,000t, they plan to produce about 2,000t this month, unchanged MoM. They have about 3,000t in stock at present.
