Chinese silicomanganese prices remain stable

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Mar 23 - Given the thin profit despite the weak demand, most suppliers of silicomanganese Mn 65%min Si 17%min P 0.25%max S 0.04%max in China keep their prices unchanged at present. Thus, the current prevailing prices of Chinese silicomanganese Mn 65%min Si 17%min P 0.25%max S 0.04%max hovers at RMB7,150-7,350/t (USD1,041-1,070/t) EXW D/P, unchanged from the middle of this week. Considering the decreased manganese ore prices and the increased inventory, insiders believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese silicomanganese would move down in the coming days.
A producer in North China stated, "We offer RMB7,250/t (USD1,056/t) EXW D/P for silicomanganese Mn 65%min Si 17%min P 0.25%max S 0.04%max today and we could give discounts of no more than RMB50/t (USD7/t) for regular clients, on par with mid this week". The producer received no inquiry today and last sold 500t at RMB7,200/t (USD1,048/t) early this week. Considering the soft demand and the increased inventory, the producer currently has no intention to decrease their price but predicts that the prevailing prices of Chinese silicomanganese would edge down next week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 100,000t of silicomanganese, would like to produce about 5,000t this month, unchanged from last month. They have around 800t of stocks at present.
Another producer in South China disclosed that their quotation for silicomanganese Mn 65%min Si 17%min P 0.25%max S 0.04%max stands at RMB7,400/t (USD1,077/t) EXW D/P without concession, in line with the beginning of this week. The producer noted, "We refused a client who bid RMB7,200/t (USD1,048/t) for 300t today, and we last sold 1,000t at RMB7,400/t (USD1,077/t) early last week". The producer plans to keep their price at the current level and believes that the mainstream prices of Chinese silicomanganese might stay firm next week due to the high production costs despite the weak demand.
Based on the annual production capacity of 600,000t of silicomanganese, the producer prefers to produce nearly 40,000t this week, unchanged from last month. The producer holds no inventory now.
